With Focus on Boom, Nozzle, and Valve Technology
Status: May 2026
Research Method: 5 parallel research agents, 100+ web searches, 30+ direct page retrievals

1. Executive Summary
The global market for high-end field sprayers is divided into four structural layers:
- OEM End Manufacturers (~60+ companies worldwide): highly fragmented in Italy (~15), consolidated in France (Exel Group), family-dominated in the UK & Germany, oligopolized in North America (Deere, CNH, AGCO).
- Boom Suppliers: Dominance of Pommier (France) as the aluminum boom OEM for British independents, Fendt Rogator, and at least one Italian OEM (Grim). Premium OEMs (Amazone, Horsch/Leeb, Agrifac, Kverneland, Hardi, Knight, Bateman, Sands) manufacture booms in-house. Specialty Enterprises (CNH subsidiary since 2022) is the captive boom manufacturer for Case IH, New Holland, and Miller.
- Nozzle and Valve System Suppliers (Tier 1): TeeJet (USA, global) and Lechler (Germany) form a nozzle duopoly with ~80% European OEM share. ARAG (Italy, Nordson since 2023) and Capstan AG (USA, Nordson since April 2026) are the two largest independent PWM solenoid valve providers – both now under the umbrella of Nordson Corporation.
- Component Suppliers (Tier 2/3): Coil and armature tube suppliers are largely opaque. Known German solenoid valve specialists (Bürkert, Magnet-Schultz, Nass Magnet, ETO Magnetic, Kendrion, Schienle) have technically suitable product lines, but direct deliveries to agricultural Tier 1 are only fragmentarily documented publicly.
Core Insight: The industry is undergoing massive vertical consolidation from 2021–2026. CNH absorbed Raven (2021) and Specialty Enterprises (2022). Nordson absorbed ARAG (2023) and Capstan (2026). AGCO acquired 85% of Trimble Ag (2024). John Deere acquired Hagie (2015/20), Mazzotti (2017), PLA (2018), and Douven (1997). As a result, a few global corporations control the critical control and valve technology for >70% of the global premium sprayer market.
2. Methodological Note
This overview is based on parallel research by five agents with the following focus areas:
| Agent | Geographical/Thematic Focus |
| 1 | Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Russia |

2. Solenoid Valve Manufacturers for Nozzle Bodies
- ARAG/Nordson (FlowTron): Broad EU base; Vision spot-spraying.
- Capstan AG/Nordson (PinPoint II/III): Up to 30 Hz. AGCO RoGator, Apache, Hagie, Bateman.
- TeeJet (DynaJet Flex): 10–15 Hz. Aftermarket + various OEMs.
- Raven Hawkeye: CNH captive (Case IH, NH), AGCO RoGator aftermarket, Goldacres.
- John Deere ExactApply: Dual solenoid 15 Hz. JD R-Series, Hagie.
- Agrifac StrictSprayPlus: Up to 100 Hz. Agrifac Condor in-house.
3. Coil Manufacturers for Solenoid Valves
Industry-wide dark field – Sub-tier suppliers rarely appear publicly.
- Magnet-Schultz: The only manufacturer with documented direct agricultural PWM relation (15W coil assemblies for Capstan valves in parts trade).
- Bürkert, Kendrion, ETO Magnetic, Nass Magnet, Schienle: Technically suitable product lines, but direct agricultural PWM relation is missing in public sources.
4. Armature Tube (Pole Tube)
Tier-3 level; completely opaque. Requirements: Pressure tight (10-20 bar), non-magnetic stainless steel, deep-drawn or turned.
- Stüken GmbH: Global leader in deep-drawing; solenoid parts in portfolio, but no direct agricultural evidence.
- Nass Magnet / Bürkert: In-house manufacturing.
- Research Gap: Who manufactures the armature tubes for ARAG FlowTron and Capstan PinPoint? Not publicly determinable.
5. PWM Systems – Patents & History
- PWM Inventor: Prof. Ken Giles (UC Davis) with Capstan (1994). Capstan holds 27+ utility patents.
- CNH vs. Capstan: 2016 Capstan sued CNH/Raven for patent infringement; 2018 confidential settlement.
- Deere ExactApply: In-house development; no Capstan relation.
9. M&A Landscape & Corporate Entanglements
Nordson Corporation – Vertical PWM Consolidation
- ARAG srl (8/2023, €960M): Market leader EU spray components, FlowTron-PWM.
- CapstanAG (4/2026, price n/a): PWM pioneer USA, 27+ patents.
- Consequence: Nordson controls the strongest European and North American PWM providers.
CNH Industrial – Captive Stack
- Raven Industries (11/2021, $2.1B): Hawkeye PWM, Slingshot, Autonomy.
- Specialty Enterprises (2022): Premium aluminum booms.
John Deere – Global Full Integrator
- Acquisitions: Douven (1997), Hagie (2015/20), Mazzotti (2017), PLA (2018).
Exel Industries – Europe Consolidator
- Acquisitions: Berthoud, Tecnoma, Hardi (2007), Agrifac (2012), Apache (2016). Consolidated under "France Pulvé" (2021).
AGCO – PTx Trimble
- 4/2024: AGCO acquires 85% of Trimble Ag (renamed PTx Trimble).
10. Dominant Patterns
- Pattern 1 – Nozzle Duopoly: TeeJet/Lechler control ~80% of researched EU OEMs.
- Pattern 2 – Pommier as independent Boom-OEM: Dominant aluminum boom supplier for British independents and Fendt Rogator.
- Pattern 3 – Italy as chassis OEM base: Mazzotti (JD subsidiary) supplies chassis to Kverneland and Danfoil.
- Pattern 4 – Emilia-Romagna cluster: Global pump/component center (Comet, ARAG, Bertolini).
- Pattern 5 – ISOBUS Control: Three-way split between external (Trimble/Müller), in-house (Hardi, Agrifac), and captive (Raven for CNH).
- Pattern 6 – PWM Market 4-Pole Structure: Nordson/Capstan, Nordson/ARAG, CNH/Raven, Deere ExactApply.
- Pattern 7 – Consolidation FR vs. Fragmentation IT: Exel dominates France; Italy has ~15+ independent manufacturers.
- Pattern 8 – Nordics without in-house production: Fully import-driven or outsourced to NL/IT.
- Pattern 9 – Argentina as underestimated cluster: World-class self-propelled cluster (PLA, Metalfor, Caimán).
11. Single-Source Risks
- CRITICAL: Nordson Monopoly PWM: After acquiring ARAG and Capstan, Nordson controls the only independent PWM providers with a full patent portfolio. All non-CNH/non-Deere OEMs are effectively dependent on Nordson for single-nozzle PWM.
- SIGNIFICANT: Nozzle Body Duopoly: TeeJet and Lechler hold a de-facto duopoly for standard components.
- SIGNIFICANT: Albuz/Solcera Ceramic Single-Source: World market leader for ceramic nozzles with no comparable competitor.
- MEDIUM: Armature Tube: Tier-3 supply chain opaque; unknown single-source risks at the semi-finished level.
- MEDIUM: Pommier Boom for UK Independents: At least 5 of 9 UK OEMs depend on Pommier (FR).
12. Open Research Points
- Armature tube suppliers for ARAG FlowTron, Capstan PinPoint, TeeJet DynaJet, ExactApply: not publicly determinable.
- Coil suppliers for the above valves (except Magnet-Schultz for Capstan partially): not public.
- John Deere ExactApply Solenoid manufacturing: In-house or external Tier-1? Not determinable.
- Nordson market share PWM after Capstan acquisition: no public numbers.
- AGCO independence strategy: Own PWM developments planned? Currently reliant on Nordson + Raven/CNH.
- Chinese components: Role of Beris Electronics, Ningbo producers in the PWM segment not public.
- Müller/Trimble valve cooperations: Unclear which valve suppliers Trimble/Müller sprayer control systems combine with.
- Russia post-2022: Which Chinese/own alternatives replace TeeJet/Lechler/Müller?
